Inside the trip #1: from adventure travel to AI for DMCs

By Outtrip · Published

Inside the trip (Desde adentro del viaje) is Outtrip's monthly newsletter: a first-person letter, what's new at Outtrip and what is happening in the inbound tourism industry. This is the first issue.

From adventure travel to AI for DMCs

Seven years ago we started Outtrip with a simple idea: that tour operators could run their business without depending on spreadsheets and their personal WhatsApp. Along the way we digitized more than 700 operators in Latin America: rentals, excursions, campsites and adventure travel agencies. Digitizing this sector has always driven us, and it is what taught us how inbound tourism works.

In 2025 we made an ambitious decision: to rebuild Outtrip as an AI-native platform. We chose not to recycle anything and to start from scratch. A doubly hard challenge: while learning from our new clients, we were also learning from our own technology.

We stumbled. Many more times than I would like to list, but if there is one thing I have learned over all these years, it is that building a company is a sequence of iterations, where each mistake brings us a little closer to what the client really needs.

Today our agent puts together a tailor-made quote, ready for the team to review, in two minutes. And we learned that technology alone is not enough: that is why we carry out every implementation together with each agency, with its products and its rules.

Reinventing yourself is dizzying. What this process taught me most is that focus is worth more than speeding up processes.

In each issue I will share some of what we are learning.

What's happening in the industry

Google is already testing AI agents that book hotels end to end. The traveler asks for something complex in a conversation, and the agent books and pays. Today it accounts for less than 1% of Booking's room nights, but travelers are starting to expect exact answers, with real prices and availability, instantly. Read more at Hospitality ON.

We were at FIT 2026

FIT 2026 pavilion at La Rural, Buenos Aires

At the end of September we were at FIT, which celebrated its 30th edition at La Rural in Buenos Aires with more than 350 exhibitors and the Dominican Republic as guest country. Our agenda consisted of meeting with more than 40 DMCs from across Latin America and with software companies taking their first steps toward adding AI layers to their systems.

How to organize your rate sheets and supplier information before automating quotes: a practical guide for DMCs and inbound agencies on source inventory, structure per service, versions and owners. It is the work worth doing before adding any AI tool.

Outtrip AI is the quoting, itinerary and booking platform for DMCs and inbound travel agencies.
